Hello

I provide writing and editing services to agencies and businesses on a freelance basis. If you're thinking about hiring me, it might help to tell you a bit more about my background.

After starting out as a newspaper reporter for the Dundee Courier and Sunday Post, I worked as a magazine sportswriter before eventually moving into the corporate world with Insider Custom Publishing - working on customer publications and marketing collateral for clients such as the Royal Bank of Scotland and Edinburgh University. I have also worked as an occasional sub-editor on the sports desk of The Scotsman.

International experience

In 2002 I went to Toronto, Canada to join Redwood Custom Communications, working on projects for the Canadian Tourism Commission among others, before joining an Internet marketing company in Vancouver as copywriter. I returned to Scotland in 2008 with a thorough knowledge and appreciation of the latest online marketing techniques (not to mention a deep, unyielding, belt-busting love of pancakes with maple syrup and bacon).

Since going freelance full-time in 2007, I've worked as a contract copywriter for design, PR and marketing agencies in Vancouver and Edinburgh, as well as direct for Internet start-ups, large brands, small businesses, the public sector and non-profits organisations.

More recently...

Recent projects include writing and managing content for Glasgow Caledonian University's new website; a brochure for Edinburgh Academy's events arm; new website copy for a social enterprise; a series of how-to business guides on marketing; complete copy for three new websites for Serebra Learning Corporation; promotional copy for retailer Best Buy Canada; and an annual report, quarterly newsletter and direct mail appeal letter for a charity.

Qualifications

I hold the Postgraduate Diploma in Direct Marketing from the Institute of Direct Marketing, trained as a sub-editor at City University, London, and have a BA in Publishing.

That’s enough about me. What do you do?
